The number of websites approached 2 billion
Websites have become an integral part of daily life in the past 30 years. According to the data of the 'Internet Live Stats' site, which shares data on internet traffic, the number of websites worldwide has reached approximately 1.9 billion. Among these sites, the search engine Google stands out as the most visited website by far.
According to the data of the online statistics portal Statista, 'most visited web pages worldwide as of January 2021', the number of monthly visits to Google reaches 86.9 billion. Google is followed by Youtube with 22.8 billion monthly visits, Facebook with 20 billion, Wikipedia with 13.6 billion and Yahoo with 5.2 billion visits.
About 60 percent of the world has access to the Internet
According to the 'global world population as of January 2021' data in Statista, there are 4.66 billion active internet users in the world. This figure corresponds to 59.5 percent of the world's population.
While Northern Europe is the region with the highest internet access with 96 percent, the Asian region leads with 2.5 billion internet users in terms of population.
On a country basis, proportionally, the United Arab Emirates, Denmark and Sweden stand out as the countries with the highest internet access. While North Korea ranks last in the list, China is at the top with 854 million internet users, and India is second with 560 million. At the same time, the two countries draw attention with their populations that do not have internet access to a large extent.
